Arne Asplund Award

About the Award

The Arne Asplund Mechanical Pulping Award was established in 1985 to commemorate Dr. Asplund’s contribution to the pulp and paper industry worldwide. The Award is presented biennially at the International Mechanical Pulping Conference, IMPC. Established to promote the development of new technology for the manufacture of high-yield pulp in refiners, it is awarded to a person or persons in recognition of outstanding achievement in the research and development of mechanical pulping technology. The award consists of a gold medal and an honorarium of SEK 25,000.

Presentation of the 2020 Award

Due to the ongoing pandemic and the postponed 2020 International Mechanical Pulping Conference (IMPC), a private price ceremony was held for the 2020 Arne Asplund Mechanical Pulping Award winner Bengt Åkerblom in Stockholm in June 2021. As a compensation for the postponed IMPC Bengt Åkerblom will have the honour of presenting his story behind the prize by giving a key-note speech at the IMPC in Vancouver in June 2022. Bengt Åkerblom’s key-note speech will be introduced by the chairman of the Arne Asplund Mechanical Pulping Foundation, Professor Göran Bengtsson.
